Max of Witte was a Schlepsigian sword swallower in Dooger and Cark's Traveling Emporium of Marvels. He was plagued with a perpetual cough which made his act all the more challenging. Max claimed to have come from a larger circus, which he had to leave due to a sex scandal.
When his friend, acrobat Otto of Schlepsig, hatched a mad but brilliant scheme to become King of Shqiperi, Max followed him as a loyal aide-de-camp under the name of Yildirim, later becoming the "king's" minister of special affairs.

Max of Witte is based on Max Schlepsig, the partner of Otto Witte in his alleged scam.
