Maria Tresca was a Socialist from New York City. She was friends with Congresswoman Flora Blackford when she was still Flora Hamburger, political activist. Maria and her sister Angelina worked with Herman Bruck in the Lower East Side. Maria continued to work there even after her sister was killed at the infamous Remembrance Day Parade of 1915.

Maria was pleased to tell Flora Blackford that she'd been elected to one more term in 1944.
