Mammianos, a general in the Videssian army, served under Petronas in the failed campaign to take Vaspurakan back from Makuran. After telling Petronas to his face that he didn't have the wherewithal to push the Makuraners out, Mammianos was reassigned to a thankless job in the Empire's provincial lowlands. Ironically, it was in those same lowlands that Mammianos, now in the service of the new Avtokrator Krispos, commanded a large part of the loyalist army which had been sent to run Petronas, now a rebel pretender to the throne, to ground.[1]
