Malaya

Malaya, also known as the Malay Peninsula, is a peninsula in Southeast Asia. Most of its territory forms the political center of the Federation of Malaysia, with Kuala Lumpur as its capital, while the isthmus of Kra to the north connects it to Thailand and the rest of the continent.

Malaya in Days of Infamy[]

Malaya was a British Colony in Asia, with an abundance of rubber. When Japan entered World War II in December of 1941, they attacked the Malayan peninsular. They rapidly drove the British down and back into Singapore, annexing the whole peninsula into their empire.[1]

Malaya was ruled by a puppet nationalist government composed of local collaborators established by the Empire of Japan. Representatives from Malaya were present for the coronation of Hawaiian King Stanley Owana Laanui after Japan conquered the Islands in 1942.

Malaya had been a British colony in Asia until Japan conquered it during World War II. By 2010, it was recognised territory of the Japanese Empire.[2]

Malaya in Joe Steele[]

After the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Malaya was invaded by the Japanese.

Malaya in Southern Victory[]

Malaya was a British Colony in Asia, with an abundance of rubber, during the 19th and 20th centuries. After the Great War, the Japanese acquired new territories in South East Asia, but the British position in Malaya was too strong for them to challenge.

In the 1930s, as Winston Churchill came to power in Great Britain, British power in the region was decreased in order to strengthen their position in Europe. When the Second Great War began in 1941, the Malaya region was quiet, until the European war began to turn against the British. Sensing weakness, the Japanese pounced on their hitherto ally in 1943, taking the control of the whole peninsula by 1944.

Malaya in The Two Georges[]

Malaya was the British Empire's toe-hold in Southeast Asia, sandwiched between Franco-Spanish Indochina and the Dutch East Indies.[3]

Literary comment[]

Malaya in The War That Came Early[]

Malaya was a British Colony in Asia, with an abundance of rubber. In January 1941, the Empire of Japan attacked the peninsula along with the Philippines, Hawaii and French colonies in southeast Asia.[4] This led to the United States entering into a co-belligerency with the Anglo-French against Japan.

By early 1942, the British had lost control of the whole peninsular, and had retreated back into Singapore.
