Malaya

The Malaya Command was a command of British Commonwealth forces formed in the 1920s for the coordination of the defences of Malaya. With the independence of Malaya on 31 August 1957 the command was disbanded and succeeded by Overseas Commonwealth Land Forces (Malaya).

Malaya Command in Days of Infamy[]

The Malaya Command came under attack in December 1941 when Japan entered World War II. The campaign for Malaya got off to a rocky start with the sinking of HMS Repulse and HMS Prince of Wales, capital ships. The situation on land was no better as the Japanese Army rapidly pushed them down the Malayan peninsula and into Singapore. They surrendered not long afterwards.

Malaya Command in Southern Victory[]

The Malaya Command was a relatively quiet post until 1943, when Japan turned against the British and went after the Asian colonies of their empire. Fighting a losing war in Europe, the British were unable to offer much to the Malaya Command and they were soundly defeated.

Malaya Command in The War That Came Early[]

The Malaya Command came under attack in January 1941, when Japan launched its attack on European Colonies in the Pacific. Constantly facing defeat after defeat, the Malaya Command was pushed back, losing control of the whole peninsula to the Japanese, and pushed back onto Singapore Island, where it made preparations for a siege.
