Princess Louizza, daughter of King Pennilvath of Leffing, declared her intention to be an actress in the Combined Kingdoms' Dramatic Festival. Pennilvath assigned Cammek, winner of two Perrie Awards, to direct Louizza in Away We Go, a fluffy melodrama written by a royal cousin. Tip-lea-pon, a royal bodyguard, accompanied Louizza to the theater.
Cammek found that Louizza was unsuited to the role of the baron's daughter. Her inherent comedic nature was unsuited to the role's dramatic intent, and she acted as though she were not a great beauty. This and other clashes on the set caused Cammek to despair of crafting a presentable play, and he attempted to flee the country. He was captured quickly and brought before the King, who showed the tearful anguish of his daughter at being deprived of her ambition. Pennilvath turned the director's job into a form of hard labor.
In council with Tip-lea-pon, who had revealed herself to be a composer, Cammek worked out a new strategy for Louizza. She would be reassigned to the role of the lady-in-waiting, and given several musical numbers to sing, including "I'm Just a Maid Who Can’t Say Nay".
