"Leigh Brackett" is a non-fiction article written by Harry Turtledove for the anthology Lorelei of the Red Mist: Planetary Romances comprising space-opera stories by Leigh Brackett. Turtledove rhetorically recalls the common truism "They don't make 'em like that any more," and applies it Brackett's writings, written in a time when it was believed that the planet Venus might be inhabitable. He then explains that Brackett acknowledged Edgar Rice Burroughs as the basis of her alien world-building, but that while Burroughs wrote simply moralistic stories of good and evil, Brackett envisioned a universe of complex dilemmas and moral ambiguity. He lauds the anthology for making her older stories available to a new generation, and encouragers readers to enjoy.
