Lal (probably an alias) was a man from Delhi who sheltered Mohandas Gandhi in his tea house after the Qutb Road Massacre in 1947. He kept a shortwave radio without German permission, an offense punishable by death. Lal used the radio to catch American news broadcasts, but knew that Gandhi would wish to hear the latest from Lord Haw-Haw. It was from this broadcast that Gandhi learned the distressing news that the German government approved of the massacre.
