Kun was a Gyongyosian soldier and mage who fought alongside Istvan throughout the Derlavaian War. He was a city boy from Gyorvar, and escorted the disoriented country boy Istvan through part of the great metropolis during a term of leave.
Both were eventually captured by the Kuusamans. Kun did not give his life for magical sacrifice as so many other POWs did during a prison uprising. After this debacle, Istavan and Kun were interviewed by the great thaumaturge Pekka, and were taken to see a demonstration of the Kuusamans' horrifying new superweapon, so that they might return to Gyorvar and persuade Ekrekek Arpad's government to sue for peace.
Istvan and Kun were not believed, and the Eyes and Ears of the Ekrekek arrested them as Kuusaman spies for spreading defeatist sentiments. Kun agreed to sign a confession that it was all a ruse, and was allowed the freedom of returning to Gyorvar. Istvan, who refused to sign the confession, was kept in a prison outside the city, and witnessed its destruction by the superweapon, which resulted in copious thousands of deaths, including Arpad and Kun.
