Khosrau I (also spelled Khosrow, Xusro or Cosroe; Middle Persian: 𐭧𐭥𐭮𐭫𐭥𐭣𐭩; New Persian: خسرو [xosˈroʊ̯]), traditionally known by his epithet of Anushirvan (انوشيروان [ænuːʃi:rˈvɔːn] "the Immortal Soul"), was the Sasanian King of Kings of Persia (Iran) from 531 to 579. He was the son and successor of Kavad I (r. 488–496, 498/9–531). During his reign, he warred with several rivals, including Byzantine Empire. By the time of his death, the Sasanian Empire had reached its greatest extent since the reign of Shapur II (309–379), stretching from Yemen in the west to Gandhara in the east. He was succeeded by his son Hormizd IV.
Khosrau I in "The Banner of Kaviyan"[]
Almost two centuries after the glory of the first Khosro, Shahin of Gomishan was able to find the banner of Kaviyan. Under the banner's influence, Shahin dreamed of the first Khosro's great successes against Persia's enemies.[1]
Khosrau I in "The Fake Pandemic"[]
In 538, Khusrau I was one of two "barbarians" Roman Emperor Justinian took seriously. The other was Martinus Paduei. Tribonian shared this fact with Paduei when the two met in Florence. Paduei was more amused than offended by the name "barbarian".[2]
