The Kentucky State Police (KSP) was the state police force of Kentucky in the years between Kentucky's readmission to the United States in 1915[1] until it was disbanded by the Kentucky state government in 1937, after the election of Governor Ruby Laffoon.[2]

The Kentucky State Police was the state's de facto secret police, made-up largely of U.S. sympathizers to facilitate Kentucky's re-entry as U.S. state during and after the Great War.[3] The KSP was headed by Chief Luther Bliss for its entire history.[4] Under Bliss' reign, the KSP was responsible for repressing anti-U.S. sentiment in all forms, and was more than willing to use extra-legal means to carry out its mission, with the U.S. government often willing to look the other way.

Prior to the KSP's dissolution, Bliss made his way to Philadelphia on what was officially called a "fact-finding" trip. Thus, he was able to escape immediate reprisals from his enemies within the state.[5]
