Karlsburg is a city in Palmetto Province. It was here that the Detinan Civil War began when "King" Geoffrey's army, commanded by Marquis Peegeetee of Goodlook, attacked Sumptuous Castle. Much later, when Hesmucet marched through Palmetto Province, he bypassed the city, a great insult to the northern soldiers remaining in the field.

Karlsburg is based on Charleston, South Carolina. "Karl" is the German equivalent of "Charles," and "burg" means city or town.
