Sir John Hart or Harte (d. January 1604) was a grocer and politician during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England. He served as lord mayor of London from 1589 to 1590. He also seems to have been involved in the founding of the East India Company. Otherwise, little else is known about Hart's life.

John Hart in Ruled Britannia[]

Sir John Hart was an alderman in London during the Spanish occupation of England. In 1597, he lent his home to Sir William Cecil and his son, Robert, for their meeting with William Shakespeare about the progress of his play, Boudicca. Hart himself did not participate in the meeting.[1]
