Jennifer Logan was a scholar of ancient Earth science fiction toward the close of the 30th century. Seeking to compare sci-fi authors' ideas of what life would be like for interstellar travelers with what the facts of hindsight, she signed on for several tours with interstellar trade freighters over a ten-year period. She had hoped to make enough personal profit to be able to endow her own chair of literature at a university on a human world.
During her stints as a trader, Logan's literary training provided her with the inspiration for several unconventional solutions to different species' social problems, which her crews were able to sell to client worlds.
While holding tenure at Saugus Central University, Logan unwillingly returned to the space adventuring career.
