Jeffrey Forrest (June 10, 1837 - February 22, 1864) was the younger brother of Nathan Bedford Forrest. Like his brother, Jeffrey became an officer in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War, eventually rising to the rank of colonel. Jeffrey Forrest was killed at the Battle of Okolona in February 1864.
The loss of his brother still weighed heavily on Nathan Bedford Forrest when the Battle of Fort Pillow took place. After the battle was over, Nathan Bedford Forrest learned that Union Major William Bradford had lost his brother, Theodorick, during the fighting. In act of sympathy, Forrest allowed William Bradford to bury his brother. Bradford used this as an opportunity to escape.[1]
