Jean Darlan was a French police inspector. He investigated the death of Jacques Carpentier, the third cosmologist to die while using the time-viewer to look just before the Big Bang. After a thorough investigation, Darlan concluded that he too, must look at the past. He died, much like the cosmologists, by no apparent cause. His colleague, Jacob Dreyfus, was able to solve the mystery.
