Ivan Turginov in The Hot War[]
Ivan Turginov was a Soviet diplomat during World War III. In June 1952, Turginov was part of a faction that opposed Lavrenty Beria's decision to continue the war. On behalf of his faction, Turginov approached Richard Cunningham Patterson Jr., the American minister to Switzerland, about U.S. President Harry Truman's offer for a return to the status quo ante bellum. Turginov also wanted clarification about control of Soviet satellite states, and hinted that Beria's position was not stable.
Patterson alerted Truman via cable.[1]
