"It's the End of the World As We Know It, And We Feel Fine"[1] is a short science fiction story by Harry Turtledove, first published in Analog, March 2013. It has been reprinted in The Year's Best Science Fiction & Fantasy (2014, Rich Horton, editor) and the Turtledove collection We Install and Other Stories (2015). It is set a few hundred years in the future where genetic engineering has made society much more peaceful and law abiding, and the people live in much more harmony than during the present. The plot is a simple slice-of-life about a few humans having an encounter while walking their pet canines, which reveals subtle insights about the post-disaster world. It's the End of the World As We (present day) Know It, And We (future residents) Feel Fine.
