The Indianapolis News was an evening newspaper published for 130 years, beginning December 7, 1869, and ending publication on October 1, 1999. At one time it had the largest circulation in the state of Indiana, and was the oldest Indianapolis newspaper in existence.

In 1945, the Indianapolis News sent Chuck Christman to cover the first protest against the American occupation of Germany led by Diana McGraw, which was held in Indianapolis. Its reporting on the event, including an attack on one of the female protesters by an angered passer-by, strove for neutrality.
