The Hall of the Nineteen Couches was an important reception room in the palace. Its name dated from the days when diners at banquets sat on couches rather than chairs. Even centuries after all couches had been removed, the name remained in place.

The Red Room was the traditional maternity ward for Videssian Empresses-Consort.
