The Huntsman's Lodge was a prestigious restaurant in Augusta, Georgia, owned by Charlemagne Broxton. After the Great War and the failure of the Red Rebellion, Scipio (using the alias Xerxes) secured a job at the Huntsman's Lodge under the supervision of Jerry Dover. While Dover shared the general outlook on race that was the foundation of the Confederate States, Dover was also pragmatic enough to realize that the hardworking Scipio and other Negroes like him were instrumental to the smooth operation of the restaurant.

When the Second Great War began, Dover returned to the Army. Scipio and other blacks who populated Augusta were rounded up and sent to their deaths as part of the Population Reduction. At the end of the war, Dover was able to regain his position after his replacement, Willard Sloan, was caught stealing from the company.
