The Huancas, Wancas, or Wankas are a Quechua-speaking people living in the Junín Region of central Peru, in and around the Mantaro Valley.
In the 15th century, the Huanca people were conquered by the Inca Empire under Pachacuti. The Huanca allied with the Spaniards during the conquest of the Empire, providing supplies and men to the Spanish army.

The Wankas were a tribe of country bumpkins in the Empire of Tawantiinsuuju. Proper Tawantiinsuujuans looked down their noses at the Wankas, whose custom of eating dog was an endless source of derisive references.
