A skinny young desk clerk with close cropped hair worked in the hotel in San Francisco where Lingol stayed during his visit in 1979. Lingol's erstwhile lover Gaetan came to the hotel inquiring for the absent foreigner in room 761, the clerk told Gaetan that Lingol had checked out. Gaetan, furious, did not notice that the clerk was giving him the glad eye. When Gaetan expressed disbelief that Lingol had dumped him, the clerk said "You never can tell with the really pretty ones, or that's been my experience, anyhow." Gaetan, who was one of the really pretty ones, had never thought of how his less lucky lovers might feel until now, and didn't enjoy it.[1]
