Its owner/bartender was a human named Raoul L'evesque who hired a native known as Joe as a number-two bartender. The bar was named after the Earth philosopher Thomas Hobbes. Knowing so and responding with his phrase on primitive life of "nasty, brutish and short" to the question of what you were drinking would earn you a free drink.
