The Hesperian Queen was one of the finer hotels in Avalon, Atlantis in the 1840s. When John James Audubon came to Avalon in 1843, during his expedition to paint honkers, his publisher Gordon Coates registered him and his companion Edward Harris at the Queen. On hearing the name, Audubon joked that it sounded like a pirate's kept woman but after checking in, he agreed it was a quality establishment.[1]
