Watrous was a devout Christian. He didn't swear, even when angry, but his rages were something to behold.[2] He was responsible for booking games,[3], and dividing the take.[4] He was devoted to keeping the team on the move and making games, even when it was too dangerous to do so.[5] He also new how to get talent, even securing the services of Carpetbag Booker for the Denver Post semipro tournament in June, 1934.[6]

His piety also proved a useful weapon on the field; his deep faith and ability to recited from the Book of Daniel helped thwart the wizards and mages opposing teams brought to the field.[7][8] His piety also gave him a strong sense of morality. He insisted on helping as many people as possible during the Great Zombie Riots in Denver, even though he (and his team) were placed in grave danger.[9]

After the team had crossed the country and settled in in Los Angeles in August, 1934, and stayed until 1935, Watrous became aware that Spivey had met and fallen in love with Mich Carstairs. It came as no surprise when Spivey announced he was getting off the bus.[10]
