Hamnet Shakespeare (30 January 1585 - August 1596) was the only son of English playwright William Shakespeare and his wife, Anne Hathaway. He had an older sister, Susanna, and a twin sister, Judith.
He lived with his mother and sisters in Stratford-Upon-Avon. His father moved to London when Hamnet was only three and did not return to Stratford in Hamnet's lifetime.
The boy died at the age of 11 in 1596.
Hamnet Shakespeare died in Stratford in 1596, just two years before his father William Shakespeare played a crucial role in overthrowing Spanish rule in England. His father was not able to see his son before the boy died.
That same year, William Shakespeare wrote Prince of Denmark, a story of fathers and sons, whose main character was named Hamlet.
