Halim Eddin was the nephew of the Atabeg of the Hassockian Empire. After the secession of the former Hassockian province Shqiperi during the Nekemte Wars, Halim was offered the crown of the new kingdom, but was reluctant to accept, as he feared to arouse his uncle's anger. While he stayed home in the Empire, he was astonished when newspapers began claiming that he was already in Shqiperi and acting as king.
In reality, the "king" was Otto, a clever circus acrobat from Schlepsig. Years later, after the War of the Kingdoms, and the downfall of his dynasty, Halim Eddin paid a visit to Otto.
Literary comment[]
Halim Eddin is based on Burhan Eddine, an obscure historical Ottoman prince, whom Otto Witte referred to as "Halim Eddine" in his "memoir".
