Hörstel is a town in the district of Steinfurt, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated near the junction of the Mittellandkanal and the Dortmund-Ems Canal, approx. 10 km east of Rheine.

After he injured himself by sitting on a glass bottle, Ihor Shevchenko was transferred to Hörstel for treatment. Thus, he avoided the atomic bomb the U.S. dropped on his regiment's position.[1]
