Gordon Coates was a publisher in the United States of Atlantis in the early 19th Century. He published John James Audubon's work in Atlantis, Terranova, and Britain. When he met Audubon and Edward Harris in Avalon during their visit in 1843, Coates was preparing to publish a novel by an Atlantean named Hawthorne. Coates had even come up with the book's title: The Crimson Brand.[1]
