Story: | Every Inch a King |
Religion: | Two Prophets |
God of: | All |
The Goddess is the chief deity of the religion of the Two Prophets.
Her Scriptures originated in ancient Lokris. Legend says that the Goddess learned Lokrian so She could write the Scriptures, but she did not learn the language very well.
In any country but Lokris, people read the Scriptures in their own language. In Lokris itself, people read the Scriptures in the ancient tongue. When someone published a translation of the Scriptures into modern Lokrian, there were bloody riots in the streets of Lakedaimon.
Literary comment[]
Harry Turtledove tells us very little about this Goddess. In theological importance she ranks a distant third behind both prophets in both the Eliphaletite and Zibeonite strains of that religion. We assume that she was responsible for providing the prophets with the prophecies on which they based their religion; however, we cannot be sure even of that much. The only thing we can say with certainty about her is that she was the wife of a monogamist.
