George Palmer Putnam (September 7, 1887 – January 4, 1950) was an American publisher, writer and explorer. Known for his marriage to (and being the widower of) Amelia Earhart, he had also achieved fame as one of the most successful promoters in the United States during the 1930s.

George Putnam in Or Even Eagle Flew[]

George Putnam and Amelia Earhart were divorced a few months before Earhart traveled to France to volunteer to fly for the Allies early May 1940. Unlike many of the volunteers, Earhart was financially comfortable, in part because she'd divorced the spendthrift Putnam.[1]
