George Lusk in "Gentlemen of the Shade"[]

George Lusk formed the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee in 1888 to pursue Jack the Ripper, not knowing that the Sanguine Club was already on the same trail. Jack showed his scorn for the Committee by mailing Lusk a mocking letter, accompanied by the partial kidney of one of the victims. A Sanguine named Martin pointed out to his compatriots that this macabre gesture worked to their advantage: no sane vampire would eat a human kidney, so the humans would be less likely to suspect vampirism in the case.[1]
