This article lists the various bodies of water, geographical formations, etc., in the world of Every Inch a King. While some have been given separate articles, most are inconsequential to the plot, and have been gathered together on this one page.
Bodies of Water[]
Darvar River[]
The Darvar River ran through northern Lokris, including Thasos. It was heavily polluted.[1]
Middle Sea[]
The Middle Sea stretched from the Hassockian Empire in the west to the Kingdom of Leon in the east.
Literary comment: The Middle Sea is based on the Mediterranean Sea.
Mykonian Sea[]
The Mykonian Sea separated Lokris from the Hassockian Empire, barring the Empire's northeastern enclave which included Vyzance. This sea had more islands than a dog has fleas.
Literary comment: The Mykonian Sea is based on the Aegean Sea, which has an island named Mykonos.
Suebic Gulf[]
The Suebic Gulf was at Schlepsig's north coast. It was native to some smaller sea serpents.[2]
Tiberian Sea[]
The Tiberian Sea was an arm of the Middle Sea, separating Torino from Shqiperi, Vlachia, Lokris, and the southernmost provinces of the Dual Monarchy.
Otto of Schlepsig took passage on fishing boat across the Tiberian to Torino after the fall of his "kingdom" in Shqiperi.
Literary comment: The Tiberian Sea is based on the Adriatic Sea.
Trans-Peninsular Canal[]
The Trans-Peninsular Canal bisected Lokris at its shortest point.
The canal's history began in ancient days, when the Lokrians realized that their section of the Nekemte Peninsula was thin enough to make a great shortcut. They never built the canal because while the Lokrians were great thinkers, they were lousy wizards. They were also notorious for being a model of how not to cooperate.
The Aeneans tried too, but Aenean sorcery was based entirely on the already inefficient Lokrian sorcery. The Emperor Otho organized a team of wizards and diggers, but got bored swiftly.
Two thousand years later, about 30 or so years before the War of the Kingdoms, a Narbonese company attempted to build the canal with modern magecraft, which involved placating the earth elementals and stabilizing the bedrock elementals. About halfway through, they ran out of money. A Lokrian firm bought them out and finished the job. Between these two phases, the construction of the canal took about 12 years.[3]
Literary comment: The Trans-Peninsular Canal is based on the Corinth Canal.
Topography[]
Dajti Mountains[]
The Dajti Mountains were located in the central regions of Shqiperi, near Peshkepiia, a city which looked like a horse dropping among the beautiful panorama.[4]
Literary comment: The Dajtis are based on the Skanderbegs of Albania, which include a mountain called Dajti.
Fortress Hill[]
Fortress Hill was a raised section of Lakedaimon, Lokris. While many of its original buildings had been torn down and recycled over the years, the temple to Cytherea still stood, minus its original statue, and was still impressive.
Otto of Schlepsig and Max of Witte were visiting Fortress Hill, and descended to the lower city just as the religious riots began.
Literary comment: Fortress Hill is based on the Acropolis of Athens.
