The Garden Gnome Freedom Front was an organization founded in Rouen, France in 1995 by students Alizon Riand, Raquel Guibert, and Becca Milleron, who were also the only members. It started as a joke article for a science fiction fanzine, and then the three decided to make it an active group. Whereas other garden gnome societies repurposed gnomes to make an anti-kitsch statement, and others were more violent and simply smashed gnomes to bits, the Front was considered to have a more noble purpose - to free the gnomes from the tyranny of human owners and return them to their forest home.
