Garanpo was a male of the Race and was a member of Home's police force. A detective, Garanpo's primary duties were centered around the investigation of ginger smuggling.
When the Tosevite starship Admiral Peary arrived at Home in 2031, Garanpo was very suspicious of the American diplomatic and military missions. While certain members of the starship's crew were indeed involved in ginger smuggling, Garanpo never found satisfactory evidence of this.

Garanpo is apparently styled after the character Lieutenant Columbo from the crime fiction TV series, Columbo.
