Gallia Aquitania (also Aquitaine, Aquitaine Gaul) was a province of the Roman Empire on the shores of the Bay of Biscay and between the Pyrenees Mountains and the Loire River. It was part of the conquered Gaul and its main inhabitants remained Celts. During the Middle Ages, Aquitaine was a powerful dukedom.
