Fusata Iida (12 February 1913-7 December 1941) was a Japanese fighter-pilot. During the attack on Pearl Harbor, Iida's plane was hit. He attempted to crash his wounded plane into a hangar, but failed. Nonetheless, Iida is seen as an early example of Japanese kamikaze tactics.

Fusata Iida in Days of Infamy[]

Saburo Shindo revered Fusata Iida's efforts to hurt the enemy even in the face of death on 7 December 1941.[1] Iida probably provided a model for Shindo's own death in 1943.
