Franz von Galen was the brother of Bishop Clemens von Galen, the Bishop of Münster, an ardent critic of the Nazis. In 1941, the Gestapo arrested Bishop von Galen. German citizens suspected that while the bishop would not be executed right away, Franz von Galen might be used against him in some way.[1]
