William Franklin Graham III (born July 14, 1952), known as Franklin Graham to distinguish him from his father W.F. Graham II aka Billy Graham, is an American Baptist evangelist and missionary. He is president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and of Samaritan's Purse, an international Christian relief organization. Graham became a "committed Christian" in 1974 and was ordained in 1982, later becoming a public speaker and author.
Graham frequently engages in political commentary which often violates key tenets of the Christianity he professes. He has been a "hawk" for several wars, and continues to maintain that homosexuality is an "abomination" in the eyes of God. He has also supported measures that impede American Muslims' freedom of expression. Throughout the presidency of Donald Trump, he directly or indirectly condoned several of Trump's racist policies which broke up a large number of immigrant families, and turned a blind eye to Trump's own lies and infidelities.
Graham defended Russian President Vladimir Putin's "gay propaganda" law and has praised his leadership for "protecting children from any homosexual agenda or propaganda."
Franklin Graham in "The Breaking of Nations"[]
Franklin Graham actively supported U.S. Presidents Donald Trump and Mike Pence throughout the 2020s. By 2031, Graham was seen as the spiritual mouthpiece of the Pence regime, and Pence's supporters believed Graham had a direct connection to God Himself.[1]
Graham denounced the treasonous and heathen ways of the breakaway republic of Pacifica.[2] Weeks later, as the United States prepared to invade Pacifica, Pacifica's acting president Nicole Yoshida received information that confirmed that Graham and everyone else associated with the Pence Administration were a wholly owned subsidiary of Vladimir Putin.[3]
Literary comment[]
"The Breaking of Nations" ends in 2031. In the sequel "The Purloined Republic" by James Morrow, we learn that Franklin Graham remained Pence's spiritual adviser until his proclivity for prostitutes could no longer be covered up and he fell from grace. He disappears from the anthology after that brief reference.
