Harry Turtledove: Index > Categorization

Based on the recent work by Zhukov15‎, I wish to confirm what I thought was the way we want to set up categories. The main point is if we place something in a sub-cat of a story cat, then it should not normally be double cated into the story cat too. The particular examples from "The War Between the Provinces" is that "Battles", "Cities" and "Characters" should only be placed into into the sub-cat and not into the parent cat. Also, a city should not be double cated into "Places" as well as the type of city (e.g. "US Cities", "Fictional Cities", etc.) The particular city cat is sufficient and in the WBtP case covered by the "Detinan Cities‎" sub-cat already being sub-cated to "Fictional Cities".

This is in no way meant to slight Zhukov15‎, but only to clarify and make consistent the categorization process. ML4E (talk) 23:01, June 13, 2013 (UTC)

This is correct. TR (talk) 00:47, June 14, 2013 (UTC)
Now, as a further example, I just did some minor format editing on Battle of Jutland and added the tWTCE cat to it since it isn't an alt-WW II battle from the series but a historical battle from its past. ML4E (talk) 20:06, June 14, 2013 (UTC)
Oh yes, and Guelph from yesterday. It was a Battle of the Great War from TL-191 and an OTL Canadian City but I let the "Southern Victory" cat remain because it is a city mentioned in SV and so seems to need to be referenced separate from the battle. The "Canadian Cities" cat contains cities that were mentioned in multiple stories beyond TL-191 and so not all would be relevant to SV, thus it shouldn't be a sub-cat there. Other Canadian cities are mentioned in e.g. The Two Georges and are cated both in "Canadian Cities" and "NAU Cities" for the (fictional) Dominion. Since the NAU is specific to that novel, "NAU Cities" is sub-cated to it and so the individual cities should not be cated to T2G. ML4E (talk) 20:23, June 14, 2013 (UTC)
