"Liberating Alaska" is a short work by Harry Turtledove, published in the July/August, 2018 issue of Asimov's Science Fiction and Fantasy (June 19, 2018). It is an alternate history military fiction story set in a world where the U.S. never purchased Alaska from Russia, although the specifics of the point of divergence are not described. However, we learn that as a consequence of the Allied intervention into the Russian Civil War, Vladimir Lenin ceded Alaska to the U.S.

The story is set in June 1929. Joseph Stalin, having succeeded Lenin to the Soviet leadership position as in OTL, initiates a take-over of the port city of Siknazuak (OTL Nome). The story depicts the liberation of Siknazuak by the United States Marines from the POV of Sgt. Eddie Houlihan.
