Erasmus ran a fish shop and cafe in the Terry of Augusta, Georgia during the 1920s. Scipio worked for him as a waiter, and the two men often talked politics.[1] Erasmus at first regarded the Freedom Party as harmless fools who couldn't organize anything, but came to see them as a genuine danger, coming to this conclusion much later than Scipio.[2]
