Brigadier General Emmett Bragg was an American fighter pilot and veteran of the Vietnam War. He commanded the American space shuttle Athena on its mission to Minerva in 1989. He was close to 50, a decade older than any of the crew.
Bragg made contact with Reatur and developed good relations with the Omalo domain-master, providing military assistance when Reatur's domain was invaded by a Skarmer army from Hogram's domain.
Bragg was married to his crewmate Louise Bragg, an engineer. Louise, who was 15 years Bragg's junior, was Bragg's second wife. He had briefly been married to a Roman historian but left her and married an engineer to make himself eligible for the Athena's mission. (The ship was crewed by married couples, so only people whose spouses had useful skills for the mission were considered.) While on Minerva, he began an extramarital affair with Sarah Levitt.
Bragg was from Alabama.
