The Elabonians built a great Empire which overtook much of the western world. Over time, the Empire failed to maintain its rule in certain holdings. The northlands of the Empire gradually grew into an assortment of de facto independent states, yet their people still continued to identify as Elabonian. Even after they defeated the Empire's attempt to retake the north, they retained an Elabonian sense of identity.
