Eagle Squadron is a 1942 American war film directed by Arthur Lubin and starring Robert Stack, Diana Barrymore, and Nigel Bruce, among others. It was based on a story by C.S. Forester that appeared in Cosmopolitan magazine, and inspired by media reports of the fighting in the Battle of Britain, in particular, the American pilots who volunteered before the United States entered World War II, to fly for the Royal Air Force in the actual Eagle Squadrons. While the film was a financial success, critics of the time disliked it, and actual Eagle Squadron flyers hated it.
Eagle Squadron in Or Even Eagle Flew[]
Eagle Squadron is a 1942 American war film starring Robert Stack as the lead, Diana Barrymore as his love interest, Nigel Bruce as a senior RAF officer, and Evelyn Venable as Amelia Earhart, among other cast members.[1]
The real Amelia Earhart and other Eagles were encouraged to attend the film's opening in London in summer 1942. Most left well before the film ended. The kindest thing Earhart could say about the film was that "it could have been better." She almost made it to the end, but finally found it too hokey.[2]
