Literary comment[]

In the short story, David Frisch is one of the scientists rounded up on the orders of President Joe Steele as part of the "Professors' Plot" to deny the United States an atomic bomb. However, Edward Teller offers to build a bomb for Steele, and is able to secure Frisch's help to do it. Frisch is not mentioned in the novel.
