Cubbie Roo, Cubbierow, or Cobbie Row, was a giant whom folklore credits with the creation of the more notable geological formations in the Orkney archipelago. His name may be a corruption of Kolbeinn Hrúga, a powerful 12th-century Norse chieftain who lived in the islands when they were under Norwegian rule.

Cubbie Roo in "The Old Grind"[]

Cubbie Roo was an Orcadian giant. Although he was the biggest giant in the Orkneys he was not particularly good at anything. He hated getting his feet wet, so tried to build stone bridges, but he always overloaded his basket and the stones fell into the sea. On one occasion in 910, he threw a boulder at Tostig of Kiepfea Hill and missed by 50 yards. Fenia found him interesting enough to lose her virginity to him during a fling, but lost interest in him shortly afterward.[1]
