Consolidated Crystal is a concept which Harry Turtledove has used in different novels, using a crystal ball network as the fantasy analog of a telegraph system. Although the novels are set in different worlds, this concept is more or less identical between them.
Consolidated Crystal in Every Inch a King[]
Consolidated Crystal dominated the world's crystal ball communications industry. Even a primitive backwater kingdom like Shqiperi had its CC offices.
Otto of Schlepsig relied on CC-delivered messages to give and get information relevant to his rise as King of Shqiperi. After his swift downfall, CC messages helped him get out of the country and back to his native Schlepsig.
Otto was certain that when men finally landed on the moon, they would find a CC office to send a message back to the world that they had landed.
Consolidated Crystal in The House of Daniel[]
Consolidated Crystal was a long-distance messaging company in the United States. As the name implies, it relayed messages via crystal to its various locations. Couriers would deliver the messages as needed.[1] Harv Watrous of the House of Daniel made substantial use of CC while the team was on the road. CC provided the notice that Double-Double and Rabbit O'Leary were out of the hospital in Ponca City.[2] Several days later, Watrous secured Carpetbag Booker as a player via CC messages.[3]
