A white-robed, white-bearded wizard personally guarded the High King at Lerellim castle when the Dark Brother's men breached the throne room. He called on the Light to aid him. The Dark Brother's High Captain Valsak said "Fool! The Light has failed!" but the wizard continued his resistance. Valsak then ordered his lieutenant Gersner to kill the wizard with a sword. Although the wizard conjured a levinbolt, Gersner swiftly sworded him down while laughing.

This unnamed character appears to be based on Gandalf, one of the heroes of The Lord of the Rings.
